Milagro Cosmic-Ray Localized Excess in the Popular Press

The regions of excess cosmic rays with the local stars
overlaid. The constellation Orion is visible in the lower region
of the figure.
Today, the Milagro Collaboration published in Physical Review Letters a fascinating result on a localized excess of cosmic rays today. This result is important because it represents the first time that small-scale features of the cosmic-ray background have been identified. The work has been highlighted by in a number of articles. Here are a few:
  • Physics Viewpoint
  • This is a nice article written by Karl-Heinz Kampert from the Department of Physics in Wuppertal, Germany
  • Science Daily
  • A popular-press article on our result
  • Ars Technica
  • Another article on the localized excesses
  • Physics World
  • An article by Physics World a magazine put out by the UK Institute of Physics
HAWC will be able to further this work by improving the energy spectrum measurement and set a limit on the number of gamma-rays from these regions.
